NOTE.
Some of the items of food shewn in the above index are Chinese and may appear to have
no bearing on our representation. It must however be borne in mind that servants are
very necessary here and that higher costs of living for Chinese are reflected in higher
wages for servants.
The Index is not a "Cost of Living Index". However it does shew the greatly increased
costs of all commodities.
